This blog is unfortunately not of the happiest article circulating on the web! The link posted in this blog will navigate you straight to the source where you may read the report, and watch the video linked to the media, channel 7, Carmel on the Case. The interview was originally done back in January, and aired a few days later as a breaking news story. With all the comments, re-tweets, and facebook shares, channel 7 was forced to release another part of the initial interview as a follow up since the public was outraged!
The testimony of one eye witness that was brave enough to come forward with her horrific story has brought much attention to the local animal shelter of Miami-Dade County. This not being the first time the shelter has been "under fire", but most certainly capturing the attention of many animal advocates nationwide, and even worldwide! The director of Animal Services, Dr. Sara Pizano, is being bombarded with emails and phone calls, demanding she be removed from her position. Of course, as part of her battle against the allegations, she blames the public and media. Even more upsetting is that the "whistleblower" was terminated after her written statement was released to public records.
It's a sad fact that hundreds of animals that go into shelters, never come out! This partially due to the uneducated public not knowing about programs available to help. There are many concerns that cause pet owners to surrender their animals, or in harsh reality, cause them to stop caring for them altogether. Here's a few reasons why there is an increase in shelter intakes: economy, expense, allergies, elderly, and behavior, to name a few. True, there are no excuses to animal cruelty, abuse, neglect, or over-population, but factor in one of the above reasons and you have yourself a good argument!
I would like to extend my knowledge and help educate the public. There are many organizations willing to help you before you decide to give up a member of your family! Some options are low cost spay/neuter clinics, low cost veterinary services, rescue groups, foster homes... Please consider this first before surrendering your pet to a place where it has a slim chance of being adopted into a good home! Do not be fooled by the statistics, and what they might tell you at the door, the fact is, your are killing your pet! Even if considered an adoptable animal, it sits in a kennel and waits, all the while contracting diseases, viruses, and other illness' due to the high risk of cross-contamination! Your pet may also never get proper treatment in case they do come down with a cold, never get taken out for exercise, may get bullied by other animals it shares a cage with, and won't eat because of stress and unfamiliar territory! It would be equivalent to a human being thrown in jail for no reason. Would you like that?
Now imagine, on top of everything else, your time has expired, nobody else wants you and so you are heading to that "special" room where you will never return. Another stressful moment for any animal as they can sense the bad. Here they begin to shake from nervousness and a person whom is supposed to be compassionate, begins handling you very rough, and next thing you know you are being poked by a needle and start losing motor skills. The room goes dark, and you're out! And although you may not be able to feel anymore, the roughness is not over, the careless people throw your lifeless body into a bag and chuck it into the back of a truck where you'll wait a day before driven off to the local dump! How about that? Would you appreciate that? Let's bag grandma, and chuck her in the truck and take her to the dump! WOW!!
Think about that. Now, getting to the point of the whole story. Below is the link to the incidents taking place at a facility unfit to take in animals of any kind! I even feel sorry for the cockroaches! Imagine after everything you have just read, knowing your pet will die, you hear worse! A heartless act of cruelty performed by a staff member... He is not only going to be rough, and manhandle your pet, but he is going to break the law and HEART-STICK your beloved companion!! No sedation, anesthesia, or even a good stiff drink! Just an abnormally large needle shoved into your chest, hitting your heart (or so you hope), and feeling the injection! OUCH!!! Have you ever heard a cat or kitten scream?? I mean literally a torturous cry of pain?? I have. I was the witness to the inhumane conduct performed by the vet tech on duty! What should have been a painless procedure turned into a massacre killing! With video cameras in the room to capture on film, and confirmed by a licensed veterinarian that this had taken place, the man still works there!!! Infraction or Injustice??
Well you be the judge.

Please leave comments! We are investigating the matter further, and trying to remove the vet tech on criminal charges, the director of shelter operations, and fighting for a newer building to house the innocent animals that have to call this place home!
